There is a unique little haven of romance for couples right in the middle of Roslyn Village. Tucked away in an historic building on Main Street, Village Spa specializes in fun spa packages for couples, with titles like “Getting Stoned Together” (side-by-side hot stone massages), “Romantic Getaway” (massages, dinner, wine), and “Will You Marry Me” (includes a limo ride to the spa, massages, dinner, champagne, flowers…whew!).
Being movie buffs, my husband and I were intrigued by “Not Just Dinner and a Movie.” We parked several blocks away, but it was a warm spring evening, perfect for walking. Rick, the owner, greeted us and led us upstairs to one of the Spa’s two suites. The elegant room was set up with two massage beds, a fireplace, a small table with comfy chairs and a bathroom, and a huge movie screen was hung on one wall.
We began our evening by changing into plush robes and, with our feet soaking in beautiful porcelain bowls, sipped wine as we read the dinner menu and selected our movie. Next came the massages, which were a combination of Swedish and hot stones. The masseuse handled the hot stones expertly, providing just the right amount of warmth and pressure. They finished with a delicious full body exfoliation and then we were left alone to enjoy the large steam shower together.
When we emerged from the shower cleansed and cozy in our robes, Rick returned. He moved the massage tables around and transformed them into lounges for movie viewing, and then served a gourmet dinner catered by Bistro Citron. I had a steak that melted in my mouth and hubby had pork medallions in ginger sauce, followed by a decadent chocolate dessert.
Rick then delivered a huge tub of popcorn and two boxes of movie candy and left us to watch the film we’d chosen. I was all for an action film, to take advantage of the 92” screen and surround sound, but went with hubby’s choice, a romantic comedy. We stretched out, sated and relaxed, and enjoyed our “private screening,” laughing and nibbling our snacks (we were too full from our amazing dinner to finish them).
When the film ended, we reluctantly relinquished our snuggly robes for our street clothes and made our way back to our car, holding hands and smiling.
