I want to live in Castle Grayskull

Here to bring you some randoid tastings/other things that peaked my interest within the month of December.

Yuck. This means November has officially passed us by, which means my birthday has also officially passed us by, which means I am now 25 years old. Officially.

I’m old. And my knees hurt. And I forgot to tape my stories.

Had to get that out of my system.

Actually, my 25th birthday was real fun. Went to Hallo Berlin (http://www.halloberlinrestaurant.com), a German restaurant/biergarten in Hell’s Kitchen, and Barcade (http://www.barcadebrooklyn.com) in Williamsburg, where I spent almost seventeen dollars in quarters getting my ass served in Tapper, Tetris and Galaga.

Yes, I suck at video games, but at least Penn Dark was on tap. Yum!

Okay, to the tastings!

– 12/9 (Wednesday): 7:00PM – 10:00PM: Deks Restaurant (http://www.deksrestaurant.com) in Rocky Point is offering a five beer dinner, where each of its five courses is paired with a different brew. The dinner will feature Belgian-style Canadian brewery Unibroue, and the beer order will be 1) Blanche De Chambley, 2) Maudite, 3) Don de Dieu, 4) Trois Pistoles, and 5) Éphémère (Apple). You can call (631) 821 – 0066 to RSVP for the $50.00 dinner.

– 12/11 (Friday): 3:00PM – 8:00PM: Dave’s Bellport Cold Beer & Soda (http://www.bellportbeer.com) will be having a tasting with German brewers Veldensteiner, Uriech and Valentin. If I can get out of work early, count me in.

– 12/12 (Saturday): 5:00PM – 9:00PM: If you happen to be in the city or anywhere near, head over to one of my favorite Brooklyn bars, Spuyten Duyvil (http://www.spuytenduyvilnyc.com), for their annual Chanukah vs. Christmas grudge match with Shmaltz Brewing Company. Here’s a short description from Shmaltz’s site (http://www.shmaltz.com):

“It’s time for everyone’s favorite holiday grudge match – Chanukah vs. Christmas: The Battle Royale of Beers. In the Shmaltz corner we’ve got Jewbelation Bar Mitzvah, an ode to our 13th anniversary, brewed with 13 malts, 13 hops, weighing in at 13% ABV. In the other corner we’ve got Christmas ales from the finest craft breweries in the world. Join the NYC Shmaltz crew for the epic annual showdown at Sputyen Duyvil at 5 PM to see which beers emerge triumphant! Enjoy a latke snack or two, then we’ll cross the street to Fette Sau and enter the timeless beef brisket vs. pork realm. And since nothing beats the taste of sweet victory, we’ll go back to Spuyten for dessert – Jewish jelly donuts vs. Christmas cookies. What a match! What a feast!”

What better way to get into the holiday spirit then by mixing alcohol, wrestling and religion, eh?

Possibly taking a visit to Fadeley’s Pub in Patchogue this weekend, but for now, back to season one of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe!
