Party Like the Pros

Planning a bash can be tough, so who better to ask for advice than the Deer Park-based Event Kings? Owned by husband-and-wife team of Steven and Terry Vogel, the Event Kings have been producing top-notch events on Long Island for more than 25 years. Here, some of their best advice.

LIP: Tell us a bit about the services that Event Kings offers.
EK: Event Kings is a full-service event company that offers free site referral (we’ll book your venue at no extra cost to you), event equipment rentals such as casino tables, photo stations, inflatables and lots more. We also offer floral décor, provided by our in-house floral designer, lighting, music and entertainment. Plus, perhaps what sets us apart from our competitors is that we plan and manage your event at no additional fee. We like to think of ourselves as a one-stop shop for any event, be it social or corporate.

LIP: Summer is primetime for outdoor entertaining. How can a company like yours help a client with their party plans?
EK: We pull it all together for our clients. We find them a park, hotel or coordinate other types of rental spaces that will host an event on-site. One of our more popular offerings for summer is our gourmet picnic menu, which is available for social and corporate clients. In addition, we offer lots of inside tips, tricks and ideas for seasonal and everyday entertaining on our blog (eventkingsny.blogspot.com), Facebook (facebook.com/eventkings) or Twitter (twitter.com/eventkingsny) pages.

LIP: When do you suggest a client splurge and when can they save a few dollars?
EK: We advise clients to splurge on what is most important to them, which typically means food, décor and entertainment. However, our philosophy is to offer a balanced event. Budgets should be spread evenly among food, décor and entertainment (including music), so that all of your guests are happy!

LIP: What’s one of your favorite party tips?
EK: I love the idea of constant entertainment. For example, we recently produced a western-themed event that had a new show come on every 30 minutes. Our clients felt like they were in Disney World! However, something like that can be a bit costly. We suggest that whatever your budget allows; think about having some sort of unexpected entertainment such as a fortune teller for a bridal shower or an illusionist at a wedding. Both are unexpected and will have your guests talking for days!
