Last month in Ithaca, NY, a brew collaboration took place between Phil Leinhart (Ommegang), Scott Vaccaro (Captain Lawrence), Casey Hughes (Flying Fish), Phil Markowski (Southampton), Jeff O’Neil and Eric Kugeman (Ithaca Beer), and special guest Steve Altimari (formerly of California’s Valley Brewing).
The beer created by these “Superbeeros” during that hang session, Super Friends IPA, will debut at this weekend’s Belgium Comes to Cooperstown 2010, a two day beer and camping festival organized by and held on the grounds of Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, NY. Unfortunately, tickets are sold out for the event (and have been for a while, as I tried to secure some several months back), but expect the Super Friends IPA to start popping up in aged form at events later in the fall, like NY Craft Beer Week.
Here is some more information on the beer, courtesy of Beernews.org: “This is a Single Hop IPA featuring Citra and was fermented entirely with a proprietary blend of strains of Brettanomyces…Availability will be (very) limited to only on-premise accounts and only on draft (most likely New York State only). Ithaca Beer Co. will have some available for growler fills in the brewery’s retail store starting next week after the Brute rush dies down.”
