Patchogue’s Blue Point Brewing Company (http://www.bluepointbrewing.com) announced the debut of a new beer that was created not for humans, but instead, for birds.
Sort of.
The brand-spankin’ new brew is called Toxic Sludge (a black India Pale Ale), and will be available for distribution in the fall. All of the net proceeds from the Sludge project will be donated to Tri-State Bird Rescue (http://www.tristatebird.org), a Delaware-based rescue and rehabilitation organization involved with birds that have been hurt by oil spills.
Kudos to Blue Point for participating in such a relevant cause, given the two recent oil disasters our country has faced.

“Our poor little beaked brethren think they are vacationing in the sunny Gulf but they are really flying straight into a disaster zone,” said Pete Cotter, president of Blue Point Brewing. “While others are focused on cleaning up the beaches and water, our efforts are purely for the birds.”
Blue Point will donate 100% of net proceeds from Toxic Sludge to Delaware-based Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research to fund their Spreading Our Wings Campaign and long term efforts to build a Wildlife Response Annex.
“The annex will improve our ability to care for large numbers of wildlife affected by oil spills and other incidents in our region,” said Rebecca Elzey, director of development for Tri-State. “Through their perfectly-timed new brew for the birds, Blue Point will be providing ongoing support for our campaign and helping to raise awareness of our mission.”
To help jumpstart fundraising efforts, starting today “Save the Buffleheads” T-shirts will be sold online for $25 at www.bptoxicsludge.com. The smallest diving duck in North America, the Bufflehead breeds in Canada and winters off the Gulf Coast.
Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research is an internationally recognized, licensed, nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation organization that cares for nearly 3,000 injured, orphaned, and oiled native wild birds each year ranging from hummingbirds to eagles. Tri-State is currently leading the wildlife rehabilitation response to the oil spill in theGulf of Mexico. For more information, visit www.tristatebird.org.
