The Power of Fruit

Tucked behind a quaint little shopping plaza on Main Street in Southold is a North Fork gem of a spa, Eastern Sun Holistic Health. My first impression on stepping over the threshold into a cozy waiting lounge was that of walking into a ski lodge, with hardwood everywhere, including the vaulted ceilings. Despite this, the Asian influence was felt strongly in the decor. The combination of the rustic wood and the Eastern decor might sound odd, but it creates a uniquely soothing ambiance—I immediately knew I would want to return here.

The treatment rooms also feature that mix of styles, with sunlight filtering through draperies. My Esthetician, Ausra, provided me with a pair of disposable panties—a spa first for me—and when she returned after I had disrobed and made myself comfy on the warm table, she proceeded with an Aromatic Pear and Green Apple Body Wrap.

This is the third spa I’ve been to this year that uses the Eminence line and the only one using it exclusively. Its growing popularity is no surprise. Eminence products are 100% organic and handmade fresh in Hungary, using handpicked fruits, herbs and flower buds. The company is also committed to green farming, harvesting and packaging. All that, and a barrage of tasty aromas!

The body wrap scent was literally mouthwatering. As she applied the cream, Ausra explained that this wrap draws out toxins. I loved that she asked if I would like my belly done. It seems like the forgotten land in body treatments, along with the breasts. She then cocooned me in blankets and massaged my feet with Apricot Body Oil. After showering, my detoxed and clean body was gently massaged with rich Pear and Green Apple Soufflé.

I then settled onto the comfy, warm facial table and enjoyed Ausra’s Blueberry Detoxifying Peel Facial. After two exfoliating cleansers, she applied the peel, which combines alpha hydroxy acids with clarifying paprika and healing pineapple. My face felt tight, warm and kind of puffy, but not unpleasantly so, and that subsided after a calming hibiscus calendula mask and massage with Stone Crop moisturizer. For the eyes and lips, she used exfoliants and masks, which are available as add-ons to any facial.

The combination of these extraordinary products and Ausra’s talent are a powerful asset to Eastern Sun. Owner Susan Meyer, Licensed Acupuncturist and Master of Science, Oriental Medicine, offers a variety of healing therapies, including massage, Healing Touch, Acupuncture, Reflexology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yoga, an infrared sauna, and much more. If you are planning a visit to the North Fork this fall, you might want to consider some “me time” at this unique spa!
