Cooking with Chef Michelle

At last week’s official launch party for Great South Bay Brewery at T.J. Finley’s (which was a huge success for all involved), I was approached by local pastry chef Michelle Gillette with a tray of something I had never come across before—beer cupcakes!

You heard me. Beer and cupcakes…in love with one another and together forever in perfect beer and cupcake matrimony.

Gillette, who has an online cooking show designed for children that enables them to explore, learn and create (three tools essential to an individual’s personal growth) in the kitchen, prepared the batch of cupcakes with Great South Bay’s Snaggletooth Stout, my favorite of their five beers.

She also passed around Blonde Ambition cookies that were dusted with cinnamon, but I wasn’t able to grab a sample.

Sure they were yummers, though.

Gillete’s invention using Great South, a local brewery, is a perfect example of what craft beer brings to the table—innovation, exploration, and the connection of community.

I would say to keep an eye out for more beer-infused deserts from Chef Michelle in the near future, but by the time you do that, they’ll have already been consumed. By me. Because I love beer. And deserts. Especially when made by Chef Michelle. Okay. I’m done typing out my abbreviated thought patterns.

P.S. – Shouts to Rick and his crew for donating the first-ever sales of each brew at Finley’s to Bay Shore’s Southside Hospital. It’s all about community.
