Foodie Gossip – December 2010

Food and the holiday season are inextricably entwined, at home or at an eatery. Whether you eat there or let them come to you, the locales below aren’t serving staid retreads of the usual holiday fare. But remember: Make your reservations and arrangements ASAP!

From December 18-24, LT Burger in the Harbor in Sag Harbor (631) 899-4646 is serving special burgers especially for Christmas. These include “A Christmas Story Burger,” an 8oz beef patty garnished with fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers and sautéed arugula along with “The Salmon Burger,” fresh grilled salmon with skinny fried onions and a dill tartar sauce. Both are $15. On New Year’s Eve, there will be “The Clucked,” a Chicken burger topped with a vegetable medley, fresh hummus, watercress and a 7-grain bun for $14 along with the “Everything is better with Pork,” featuring slow roasted pulled pork, presented with homemade honey BBQ sauce and fresh coleslaw on a brioche bun for $15. At Wave Restaurant & Lounge at Danfords Hotel & Marina in Port Jefferson (631) 928-5200, ext. 176 there will be a Christmas day buffet with four seatings at a cost of $42.95 for adults and $19.95 for children under 12, plus tax and gratuity. Among the numerous offerings for all courses are a smoked fish and caviar display for an appetizer, blackened tilapia for an entrée, slow roasted prime rib with au jus at the carving station, rigatoni Bolognaise at the pasta station and a wide selection of desserts.

But who says you have to leave home for top-notch eats? Seasons of Southampton caterers (631) 283-3354 uses locally grown produce and are offering a Holiday Package for cocktail parties with such selections as seared filet mignon on garlic crostini and creamy horseradish sauce, as well as mini lobster pot pies in a sherry cream. Dino’s Restaurant in Rockville Centre (516) 764-0800, specializing in northern Italian cuisine, is another great place for catering a holiday celebration with all of your Italian faves on tap for large and small parties.

So from the Saroli family and all of us at Pulse, have a happy and gastronomically enjoyable holiday season!
