February picks for 92.9 & 96.9 WEHM New Release Tuesdays with Harry Wareing (airing every Tuesday night from 9-10pm) are heavy on folksiness and stellar vocal performances.

Up-and-coming English artist Adele has come out with her second album 21 and the song “Rolling in the Deep.” She is an assertive modern soul belter, definitely a trend in contemporary music, but the instrumentation has an alternative rock edge.

Indie folk practitioners The Decembrists have released The King is Dead and the first single “Down by the Water,” featuring R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck and singer/songwriter Gillian Welch. The song has the same appealing folky lope and lyric delivery as early-90s R.E.M.

The latest, eponymous album from veteran folkster Edie Brickell features the tune “Pill,” an effervescent pop song with gorgeous harmonies and lyrics that are commentary on the modern-day dependence on pills to get through the day.
