Hofstra’s Galati Pre-Season Stud

Hofstra sophomore pitcher Olivia Galati, from West Babylon and an alumnus of St. John the Baptist, was one of 50 players named to the initial watch list for the 10th Annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award by the Amateur Softball Association.

Galati finished her freshman year in 2010 with a 26-7 record, a 1.60 ERA and 294 strikeouts. She tied the school record for wins in a season and recorded the second-highest single-season strikeout total in Hofstra annals. She was named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher and Rookie of the Year, and was chosen the Most Outstanding Player of the CAA Tournament after throwing a no-hitter in the championship game against Georgia State.

Galati’s efforts helped Hofstra tie a school record for wins in a season (45-12) and advance to the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament, when the Pride fell in 12 innings to third-ranked and eventual runner-up Arizona. Galati had two wins over No. 14 Oklahoma State in the NCAA Tournament, including a complete game in a 5-2 victory in an elimination game.

The 2011 Pre-Season Watch List is comprised of 50 players representing 36 schools and 15 different NCAA Division I Conferences with the Pac-10 Conference leading the way with seven schools represented. The list includes 23 seniors, 12 juniors and 15 sophomores.
