Quarless wins Super Bowl title

Uniondale native Andrew Quarless is now a Super Bowl champion. A tight end with the Green Bay Packers, he was a key contributor to the offense this season and celebrated with his teammates on the field at Cowboys Stadium after beating Pittsburgh, 31-25.

Suffolk Hall of Fame announces class of 2011

Among the selections this year are former Major League Baseball players Frank Catalanotto and Jim Mecir, who both graduated from Smithtown East High School. Joining them are Eric Brown (baseball coach at Suffolk Community College), Don Buckley (athletic director at St. Anthony’s), Jeff and Scott Reh (brothers who were outstanding athletes at Rocky Point), Barbara Williams (former skating instructor with the Islanders), Cathy Gallagher (former director of Section XI) and Jesse Jantzen (legendary wrestler from Shoreham).
