Spa Week

Can you believe it’s finally April? This means no more snow! At least, let’s hope so. But also, Spa Week is back! This great tradition recruits spas around the country twice a year to offer a selection of their services for only $50 each. I was fortunate to check out the Center for Pain Relief and Wellness in Babylon Village, which is one of the 40 Long Island spas participating in 2011 Spring Spa Week.

Center for Pain Relief and Wellness? Don’t let the name fool you. They have a holistic focus with a soothing spa vibe and a friendly, informative staff. And they have the softest spa robe I’ve ever experienced!

First was a customized facial. The treatment table, while not heated, was one of the more comfortable tables that held my feet elevated above my head. My lower back appreciated that. Jackie asked a lot about what my concerns were and, after examining my skin, recommended a nourishing facial. She uses Pevonia products, which I had the pleasure of testing a couple of years ago. This is one of my favorite skincare lines. She treated my face to a cleansing, three applications of a vitamin C serum, an exfoliation, mask and moisturizer in a uniquely invigorating yet calming style. Between Jackie’s ministrations and the marvelous Pevonia products, my skin glowed.

I then moved, donning that robe I now covet and must own, to the massage room for a hot stone massage by Carolyn. I settled onto the table, which was also particularly comfortable. Carolyn made sure she applied just the right pressure. The use of the hot stones, both in manipulating with pressure and with placement on the body, was heavenly! If you have never had the pleasure of a hot stone massage, head on over and ask for Carolyn.

The lobby, where you wait for your treatment, is cozy with an eclectic feel. You can also purchase many of the awesome Pevonia products, as well as a variety of other healing and pampering products.

The Center’s philosophy follows the many healing benefits of human touch, and this shines through in both Carolyn’s and Jackie’s talents! I walked away feeling especially pampered, with glowing skin and a relaxed, limber body.
