WEHM’s New Release Tuesdays May 2011

May selections for 92.9 & 96.9 WEHM New Release Tuesdays with Harry Wareing (airing every Tuesday night from 9-10pm) come from artists that have produced work that is relevant and current despite their divergent histories and styles.

Death Cab for Cutie, alternative rock’s mainstay in the 00s return with Codes and Keys and the tune “You Are a Tourist.” It shares the same etherealness with U2’s best work and features a head-bobbing groove along with an interesting mix of lead and backing vocals.

Lead singer/guitarist for Pearl Jam and grunge icon Eddie Vedder shows his range with Ukulele Songs and the single “Longing to Belong.” It features the titular instrument and some sensitive singing (and social commentary) from Vedder, along with orchestral embellishments.

New Wave legends The Cars are back with Move Like This and “Sad Song.” A reunion of key members Elliot Easton and Rick Ocasek, the classic sound is here: Quirky vocals, crisp drumming, synth washes and simple but catchy songwriting.
