Seven Great Days

Wine is for sharing—just ask our wine columnist Chris Miller—host a wine tasting night. Not sure where to start? Michael Anthony’s will lend you their Cassandra: Established connoisseur will bring the wine, theme and the restaurant’s best cuisine for pairing.

Do some stargazing—the old school kind. Set your telescope on the back deck and (hopefully) catch the Eta Aquarid meteor shower in the early part of the month. Otherwise, enjoy a contemplative evening with a warm blanket and sky wide open to dreaming.

Tuesday is now a day of dancing. Ballroom, salsa, tango and waltz lessons abound. Don’t think of this as something hokey your parents did (though they did); take advantage of the time alone as adults and learn something you can actually use (like at the company holiday party).

It’s Wednesday, and you want to take it easy. Open mic at The Spoon (Lindenhurst) is just the thing. Live music, yours if you choose, beer, wine, comfort food, good vibes. And, it’s family friendly, so you could bring the kids for some adult bonding time.

Take mom to a matinee in the city and dinner afterwards. Try The House of Blue Leaves, a dark, but romantic, comedy featuring Edie Falco, Ben Stiller and others. Afterwards, hit the Cellar Bar at the Bryant Park Hotel for a cool and chic chill.

You want it all, and very few places deliver. Grey Horse Tavern, tucked into happy little Bayport is one of them. Great food, great wine (and beer) and great music. This is the perfect Friday night place to bring friends, and make new ones.

Step back in time and celebrate Long Island’s gilded days: Go mansion hopping! While away the afternoon at any number of our region’s storied estates, take in special events and lectures about our famed mansions. has the details.
