While Dan Lutker applied lotion to various portions of his lower extremity, in an effort to prevent overexposure to ultraviolet radiation, Super Neat and Stacey Blair received brew-instruction from veteran homebrewers Todd Long and Mike Napolitano at the 2011 American Homebrewers Association (AHA) Big Brew, hosted at Blue Point Brewery in Patchogue.
Created by AHA to honor National Homebrew Day on 5/7, Big Brew is a worldwide beer-making session for homebrewers and non-homebrewers celebrated on the first Saturday of every May. For individuals with minimal experience in brewing, like your blogger, the event serves to provide a platform where questions can be asked, correct information obtained, and palms dirtied—from grain and hop.
Props to Mr. Long and Mr. Napolitano for patient assistance during the mash, sparge, boil and hop addition, and chill.
The unnamed saison is currently fermenting at Mr. Long’s residence. Expect to taste some at Martha Clara Vineyards in August.
