Summer is almost here. You know, that season we begin wearing less and less. Which means more exposed skin. And that means we have to step up our hair removal regimen. Here are a few products that will help you stay well groomed for the season’s cute sundresses, shorts and swimsuits.
Do you like gadgets? I love them. So I was excited to try Karmissie Threader hair removal system. I have been hearing about threading as a method of hair removal and I was looking forward to trying this exotic method. In ancient Persia, threading a girl’s facial hair was a sign of her transition into womanhood, and this ancient method is being revived. Karmissie offers a kit with a threading tool, an instruction booklet and DVD, and a variety of supporting products.
I tried it on the light hairs that have been sprouting around my mouth. The process is actually quite complicated—twisting thread in a way to ensnare the hair and then pulling it out. The device is supposed to make it easy for non-professionals to get the same results. I just couldn’t master it. But every couple of attempts, I’d have success and I could see how someone who had a talent for this method would love the results. The Feel Less cream definitely helped do what the name promised, and I liked the results of The Closer cream for soothing the skin and closing pores. $125 for the kit, which comes with enough thread to last about 9 months.
For a lower tech solution, Veet offers ready-to-use wax strips that are super user-friendly. Warm them up in your hands, open, rub on and rip off. They work like a charm, and I loved the soothing wipes with essential oils and a rose scent. Three sizes—Legs and Body, Bikini and Underarm, and Face—can be found in most drug stores between $5 and $10.
For that good old-fashioned method of razor shaving, I recommend three cool shaving aids. Aubrey Organics has the yummy-smelling Pomegranate Crème de la Shave. It’s a moisture rich cream with lots of organic ingredients, such as lavender, aloe and sunflower seed oil. About $5 for a 4-ounce tube.
Kiss My Face has (I love this) “obsessively natural” Moisture Shave in Vanilla Earth. With ingredients like peppermint, olive and coconut oils, and arnica, this cream stimulates, hydrates and heals. About $5 for a 4-ounce tube.
Queen of…Shaving Gel comes in a cute retro tube. It’s a slippery gel that helps the razor slide smoothly, and the eucalyptus and melaleuca (tea tree) oils give your skin a nice tingly feeling. About $4 for a 5-ounce tube.
Everyone’s skin is different so make sure you test these products on a small inconspicuos spot before doing a large area.
