We’re All Just Passing Through sounds a little bit west coast, in spite of their Long Islandness. Their songwriting pairs simple melodies with thought-provoking lyrics, a la Belle and Sebastian or (dare I say it?) Dashboard Confessional. And I’ll admit, of I’m a little bit of a sucker for folkypunky acoustic music with a male and a female voice swapping the lead.
The brother-sister duo have just released their second EP, entitled Bedroom Recordings, Vol. 2. They were kind enough to share a few tracks with me, and guitarist Travis Johnides’ characterization of the album as being “extremely upbeat and positive” is an accurate one. Their new tunes have a little bit more of his punk mentality in them, which mixes well with the down-to-earth acoustic sound that carried over from the first EP.
You can check out the EP yourself on iTunes for the equally down-to-earth price of $2.97. Or, for a sneak preview, tune in to WUSB (90.1 FM or http://wusb.fm/ online) this Thursday, the 7th, at 7pm. By tuning in you’ll be supporting both a local band AND a local radio station, which totally earns you extra bonus points from me.
