Portrait of a Supercar: Koenigsegg Agera R

Any definition you see for the Koenigsegg Agera R is rife with the term “Supercar.” Neither sports car nor flashy standard ride, I’m a Swedish elite Supercar, fit for the kings of the automobile world. Might you be one?

And the “R” signifies a special edition ride that runs on biofuel, not standard petrol. It’s almost impossible to talk about myself without referring to my design like a heavenly product from the car gods. I go 0 to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 273 mph. I’m faster than almost any car that has graced these fine pages, including the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

With my 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and fiendishly good torque and rpm rates, there are few on the market to compare with my drive times and acceleration. I am the venerable magic carpet ride on four wheels.

imageA specific element of my exterior is the dynamic wing in the rear, which deflects downward during high speeds to reduce wind resistance. My luggage space remains one of the largest in the industry. Couple that with my detachable hardtop and I, for the life of me, can’t understand how I’m not on the cover of every magazine or cast as the main car in every feature film. Then again, there’s something to be said for an air of mystery.

My interior has only the most worthy of materials and products, including precious metals, alcantara and leather.

Koenigsegg brings a Triplex rear suspension to the table, allowing for an absorber and spring to be connected to each of my rear wheels. It makes for a smooth and crisp drive with limited interruptions from shock absorption.

Getting back to the main meal, my carbon-Kevlar body is lighter than steel, and it’s not the only stroke of genius with my design. My specially made Michelin tires and my new gearbox are necessary implementations for a divine setting of mechanical ingenuity.

And for the lucky few who get to sit in my driver’s seat, you’ll notice the mild flavor of my blissfully smooth ride is quickly overcome by the powerful indulgence of clicking through my gears and shifting to top speed. It’s an appropriate juxtaposition. The world will fly by and you will remain steady in your approach to feeling whatever it is you’re trying to capture. Pinch yourself, this is really happening.
