Through the middle of the month, Outeast Gallery in Montauk is showing paintings by East End favorite Paton Miller. A Southampton resident and world traveler, Miller’s work in oil and gouache draws from his imagination and the many scenes and people he encounters during his trips to Hawaii, Costa Rica and Bali, to name a few. His unique style, including roughly painted surfaces and mixed media elements, gives the canvases a worn and weathered look, much like the objects depicted, old boats and structures on the beaches for example. The paintings—reminiscent of Mexican muralists and French Post-Impressionist Paul Gauguin—are steeped in narrative, like glimpses of history or folk tales by the sea.
Outeast Gallery has shown work by local East End artists using a variety of mediums, as well as home furnishings, textiles, jewelry and fair trade mercantile items since 2010.

My Studio, a new gallery on Main Street in the Historic Harbor district of Port Washington, is displaying an array of artwork in Life Around Us, a themed exhibition/competition, through September 21. Artists working in all mediums, including photography, were invited to submit work for the show. A selection committee made the final decisions based on quality of draftsmanship, creativity and values. Among those included in the exhibition, three artists were chosen to receive cash prizes and three received honorable mention certificates.
Founded and run by partners and artists Mario Tucci and Betty Stephens, the gallery space at My Studio is part of a combined artistic mission that also includes studio space and classes. Call for hours and more information about exhibitions and programs.
