Foodie Gossip October 2012

We regret to inform our audience of the (un)fortunate loss of our former Foodie Gossip-er, Gino Saroli. Adored by seven people, according to a recent Long Island Pulse magazine poll, Saroli was pancaked by Oscar Meyer’s Wienermobile on Montauk Highway and, well, fuggedaboutit…

A moment of silence.

Now several moments of not-silence for foodstuffs!

Carolyn Iannone is the new owner of Love Lane Kitchen. A former general manager, Iannone purchased the Mattituck-based restaurant from Michael and Patti Avella, who opened the eatery in 2007. Expect a similar menu, however, with sources as close as its neighbor, Love Lane Market. To Nassau. The Patio at Freeport Inn & Marina combines film and food every Tuesday at 7pm ($30). A two-course prix fixe (e.g., New England clam chowder and citrus soy tuna) prepared by Colin McKaharay, executive chef, is offered with The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Grease and other revered capsules of cinematic history. I am geeked for The Rocky Horror Picture Show on October 30. Me. Leather. Fishnets. Yes.

Zum Schneider, a veritable Bavarian biergarten tucked within New York’s East Village since 2000, opened its second location. In Montauk. Owned by Sylvester Schneider, a seven-year Montauk resident who also fronts oompah band, Mösl Franzi and the JaJaJa’s, Zum Schneider sprinkles Germany on East End-sourced fare (e.g., beer-marinated Montauk bass with horseradish cream filet).

To Nassau (again)! Market Bistro in Jericho continues to educate Nassau County on intelligent food choices. Though Bill Holden is co-proprietor and executive chef (West End Cafe in Carle Place, too), his son, Chris, is Market Bistro’s daily culinator. An advocate for learning food’s lifespan from birth to plate, he assisted on a farm in Céret, France for eight months in 2003.
