A new voice has been shaking up the Suffolk scene this year, and she has just released her first EP.
If you make the rounds of the usual south shore music haunts, you have probably had the pleasure of hearing Cassandra House fearlessly applying her soulful voice to standards like Angel From Montgomery as well as her own poignantly honest originals. Like Bonnie Raitt or Brandi Carlile, Cassandra’s vocals make you feel something raw and real before you are even aware of the words you’re listening to. On a deeper second listen, you hear hard truths and gritty honesty that sound like they could come from a songwriter 20 years older – and they make you feel the same things more.
The singer/songwriter’s debut EP, Night Owl, opens with an up country number called G’on and Go. As you listen, it takes you deeper into the psyche of a young woman who has learned bitter lessons from life and relationships, and is developing an identity around carrying on anyway.
“When is it enough to settle with love?” she asks the listener. It’s the sort of question that makes you suddenly realize you don’t know the answer, and now you might need to spend your life trying to find it.
Night Owl can be found on iTunes and CD Baby, or purchased at shows. Cassandra House will next be appearing at Geekhampton‘s Christmas Party on December 15th. Updates and more information can be found at her facebook page.
