Steady on shore he bicycles along the pier’s edge,
fathoms of dreams in a bottle of blue moon.
From the boardwalk he pedals across the shipyard,
sets sail on calm seas in search of seagulls snacking,
schools of jellyfish and further out the green glow
of surfacing humpback whales.
Suddenly sounds of waves whip rocks,
repetitive crests in somber strokes of suffering.
Life jacket empty. Life boat fills with debris.
A derelict ship adrift, consumed by an angry sea.
A spoke wheel and skipper’s cap
floating in fragments of a blue moon dream.
