September selections for 92.9 and 96.9 WEHM New Release Tuesdays show how some artists travel on familiar paths but others make unexpected turns. Listen for yourself every Tuesday from 9-10pm.

Elvis Costello and The Roots join forces for the album Wise Up Ghost and the track “Walk Us Uptown.” Costello has always been a musical chameleon and The Roots have no trouble transcending classic hip-hop. The result of their collaboration is a slinky, cool groove with laconic Costello vocals on top.

Carrying the Southern rock mantle into the 21st century (with a killer live show to boot), Gov’t Mule releases Shout and the song “Funny Little Tragedy.” The catchy tune rocks hard and Warren Haynes provides the right amount of grit in his delivery of the verses.

Jack Johnson, the mellowest man in the music biz, returns with From Here to Now to You and the song “I Got You.” Johnson shows that volumes of feeling can be conveyed with just a voice, acoustic guitar and heartfelt lyrics.
