The Best Week September 2013

It happened: Summer came and is now almost gone. The coming weeks are our last chance to soak in what we can, luckily there are plenty of options. To fill the remaining warm days there are social events, art and music in spades. Follow our lead and you’re sure to have yourself the best week

3 Can’t Miss Events

September 7-8
Oktoberfest at Martha Clara Vineyards

Oktoberfest always starts in September, but Martha Clara isn’t going to wait until the traditional end of the month to launch theirs. Enjoy German beer, food and wine in the authentic spirit of the harvest festival right after Labor Day.

September 6-30
A Brush with Sandy

Environ Vision Designs in Massapequa presents a stirring mix of 2D and 3D art commemorating those affected by Superstorm Sandy.

September 22
An Evening with Graham Nash at NYCB Theatre in Westbur
One third of Crosby, Stills and Nash, the music icon and subject of our feature interview (on page 86), takes the stage on Long Island during a break from the 2013 CSN tour.

7 Great Days

Take a long pause to rediscover the lost art of breakfast at Left Coast Kitchen and Cocktails in Merrick. Need for speed? Test-drive Jaguar’s new F-Type, Sunday driving never felt so good.

It’s September, Mondays belong to football. Source Adam Schefter for your fantasy picks and make for PeraBell Food Bar in Patchogue to watch the game. The Battle of the Burger winners will be serving up their “Champ Burgers.”

Fling away the early workweek stress with I.Fly trapeze in Eisenhower Park, you won’t believe the workout. Nearby, The Carltun is featuring “the wines of New York” as part of its four-course tasting dinner.

Manhattan two ways: Chez Melville’s Four Food Studio via their legendary incarnation of the timeless cocktail. And/or via the Met, where The Nose, Shostakovich’s avant-garde opera, takes the stage.

Not worried about what the rest of the week may hold? Hop a quick flight to Hilton Head Island. A PGA TOUR-caliber course, gorgeous beaches and untarnished wilderness await to fill out the last days of summer.

An afternoon walk in one of Manhattan’s many parks is a sublime experience as the weather cools, but nightlife beckons as the sun goes down. Make for the chic rooftop at The Press Lounge for NYC joviality.

Weekend getaway in a day: Check in with Lieb Cellars for a tasting. Swing by East Hampton’s Leiber Collection for a special exhibit. Finish in Amagansett with a show at Stephen Talkhouse. If it happens to be the 21st, Joe Delia & Thieves will be playing.
