Long Island native Jill Byers has joined Joe Spallina’s coaching staff for the Stony Brook women’s lacrosse program, according to a release from the university.
Byers, who had one of the best lacrosse careers in the history of Notre Dame, was an assistant in South Bend last season before Spallina tabbed her for his up-and-coming Seawolves program.
“Hiring someone with the experience and success that Jill Byers has is something that was extremely important for our program especially with the large incoming freshman class,” Spallina said in a statement.
“She is a Long Island native with a great pedigree and experience playing and coaching at the top-10, Div. I level who will help bolster our recruiting. We will definitely benefit from having her on our staff.”
A First Team All-American for the Irish, the Northport, N.Y. native was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy in 2009. She graduated from Notre Dame as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 262 goals, 336 points and 154 draw controls.
