Local Chef to Appear on Food Network’s Rewrapped

If you’re a fan of the Food Network’s Rewrapped, Long Island or vegan food you can’t miss the April 21 Rewrapped at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Local vegan chef Jay Astafa will make his national TV debut on the show.

“Can’t wait to show America how amazing vegan food is,” Jay posted on his Facebook page.

At 21, Astafa may seem like a newbie to the food world but in reality he grew up around the restaurant business. His dad, Andy Astafa, is the owner of 3 Brothers Pizza Café in Farmingdale.

Two years, after becoming a vegan in 2007, Jay, developed a vegan menu for the restaurant. Five years later and Jay is a graduate of the New York Natural Gourmet Institute, the owner of his own catering company and is planning to open a restaurant in New York City.

Rewrapped is a Food Network show hosted by Joey Fatone. On each episode competitors attempt to recreate a beloved American snack first by duplicating the original and then by using the snack food to create a brand new dish. In past episodes competitors have taken on Entenmann’s Rich Frosted Donut, the Twinkie and the Utz pretzel rod.

Jay’s challenge is to recreate the Tastykake Glazed Cherry Pie.
