You watched and cheered for Long Island local Leah Laurenti on “American Idol” seasons 9 and 10. Now, Laurenti has a debut single out and she’ll be performing at George Martin’s Strip Steak in Great River from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 29.
Her single “Backin’ Down,” is a charismatic, upbeat song that she says tells her story of perseverance and survival.
“I have really found myself and my sound, and also I believe in the message this song sends to people,” she said. “I want people to feel confident every morning and even on the hard, stressful days to somehow find the strength to rise above and never back down.”
The single, which she wrote with co-writers and producers Frank Anselmo and Schuyler Deale, debuted on Thursday, May 22 and is available on iTunes.
Laurenti, a Long Island native, began her career as a singer at the age of 8, when she sang her first church solo.
“It was a rush to sing in front of so many people,” Laurenti said. “It was just complete excitement to feel the energy and the reactions. I love that feeling!”
After “American Idol,” Laurenti returned to New York where she has been playing local gigs and even sang The National Anthem at Citi Field. She’s currently working on an album that she says will contain many of her own compositions.
