Three Can’t Miss Weekend Events

Summer is finally here. The summer solstice is this Saturday and there are a ton of things going on to help celebrate the return of long, lazy days spent lounging at the beach or strolling through town window-shopping. There’s the Here Comes The Sun Benefit event out on the East End, a the chance to learn about Martha Clara Vineyards during a morning walk with your dog, there are World Cup matches to watch and so much more. Here are your three can’t miss events.

Opening Ceremony For The New Children’s Addition At The East Hampton Library
WHEN/WHERE
: Saturday, June 21, 11:30 a.m., at the East Hampton Library, 159 Main St., East Hampton
WHY GO: Get a tour of the new addition, hear the announcement of the winning entries in the writing and drawing contest and watch items placed into a time capsule. Plus they promise the speeches will be short and you want to see the new space.

Annual Shelter Island 10K
WHEN/WHERE:
Saturday, June 21, 5:30 p.m., on Shelter Island
WHY GO: The Shelter Island 10K is turning 35. Help them celebrate by running or cheering on the runners. Runners can sign up shlterislandrun.com. The race benefits the East End Hospice, Timothy Hill Children’s Ranch and the Shelter Island Run Community Fund. Olympic Silver Medalist and 2014 Boston Marathon winner Meb Keflezighi will compete in the race.
PRICING: $38 for runners, free to watch

“Help Get Emma A Lift” A Concert At 89 North
WHEN/WHERE:
Sunday, June 22 2 to 6 p.m., at 89 North Music Venue, 89 N Ocean Ave, Patchogue, NY.
WHY GO: Randy Jackson, George Cintron & The Clapton Chronicles: Tribute Band and The Stanton Anderson Band will perform at a concert where all proceeds will benefit a local Long Island girl. Emma Nelson, 7, is the only female of the 200 reported cases of a rare blood disease, ATR-X. She needs to be connected to medical equipment at all times but during the process of getting in an out of the family vehicle that isn’t always possible. The proceeds from the concert will go towards buying the family a van with customized features.
PRICING: $20 at the door.
