Three Can’t Miss Events: Sept. 18 to Sept. 21

Maritime Festival
The three-day festival kicks off Friday night with A Land and Sea Greenport Gala, an evening celebrating maritime history with local food, cocktails and entertainment. The weekend’s activities and events continue throughout the day, including a parade, boat displays, museum tours, craft demos, live music, A Taste of East End food court, oyster shucking demos and contest, “Bug Light” cruises, a film screening and two grand raffles. Funds raised from the weekend help support lighthouse restoration and the East End Seaport Maritime Museum projects.

Dragon Boat Race Festival
Dragons will roar to life as 15-20 teams of 20 paddlers each, churn water along a 200-meter racecourse on the harbor front. There will be a full day festival celebrating the races with live music, dance and Asian food vendors accompanying the rhythmic pounding of drummers aboard the dragon vessels. Rock band HsuNami closes the event following the awards ceremony.

Bellmore Family Street Festival
The largest street festival on Long Island, hosting more 120,000 festivalgoers annually, returns Thursday. The four-day Bellmore Family Street Festival includes one of the largest carnivals in Nassau county, Erik’s Reptile Edventure, magic shows and hundreds of craft, home, military, sports and lifestyles exhibitors.
