Being a Real Housewife of New York City didn’t come naturally to Heather Thomson, at least not at first.
“I remember when I got the call thinking I’m not a housewife, but then thinking this is an opportunity,” Thomson told a crowd gathered at Roosevelt’s Field Bloomingdale’s. “Your dreams have to be bigger than your feelings.”
The busy housewife, fashion designer, and mother of two was at Bloomingdale’s to talk about her fashion line Yummie by Heather Thomson and to introduce the brand new Yummie by Heather Thomson active and denim collections.
“I’m a selfish designer,” Thomson said. “I didn’t do active because it’s trending, I did it because I’m a athlete.”

Her inspiration for the active line, Thomson said, came from wanting to be able to wear the same leggings on the plane, out to dinner with heels and a tunic and then on the treadmill the next morning. She thought current active wear lines were lacking that versatility and set out to change it.
Designed to do just that, the new line includes pants, retailing for about $70 that can be worn with a tunic and heels for lunch with the girls. The pants sit higher designed to flatter almost any shape. And Thomson got the inspiration for the colors in her new active line, orange and black, from her gym in NYC.
The active line and the new denim line join her shape wear line of bras, panties and sleepwear.
“You can layer this brand.” Thomson said.

The versatility of the brand was important for Thomson’s own life where she’s always balancing her family with her career as a designer and with Real Housewives.
The new lines add to Thomson’s hectic days but still she said she finds balance in paying attention to the moment at hand.
“I’m perfectly happy being unbalanced,” Thomson said. “You have to focus on the task at hand, when I’m home with the kids the iPhone goes away, when I’m work I’m not thinking about Real Housewives.”
And when she’s doing it all, her brand is of course her go to for fashion. Again saying she’s selfish Thomson said her go to any day of the week is the Yummie by Heather Thomson bra and panty. Then come the jeans where she’s into supper skinny fits and slim boyfriend fits, both of which you’ll find in her line.
“I’m loving the supper skinny fit, I had them on yesterday, today I have them on in charcoal, and I love the slim boyfriend fit too,” Thomson said.
Thomson’s slim boyfriend jean is the relaxed jean that everyone loves but with more shape to it.
“I hope when women put on the clothes they’re confident in themselves,” Thomson said. “Be confident in who you are and love getting dressed.”
As for what’s next for Real Housewives well, while nothing official has been announced, Thomson said she doesn’t think fans will have to wait two years for the next season.
“Last season was so great, it was real relationships building and crumbling and that’s the reality of life,” Thomson said.
