1,780 staterooms, 1,082 feet in length, 142,229 tonnages…the Royal Princess cruise ship is huge. A luxury-floating city that summers in Europe, makes it way through Canada and New England in the fall and spends the winter and early spring in the Caribbean.
The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook is one of the ports the Royal Princess departs from and Princess Cruises and Vacations by Design at Hartford Holidays arrange for the curious to take a peek at what a vacation aboard the Royal Princess cruise ship is like without leaving port.
“I call it take your cruise for a test drive,” said Scott Kertes affectionately known as Captain of the Ship at Vacations by Design at Hartford Holidays said.
Start peering into the cruise ship life in the main Atrium on Deck 5. The Atrium is the central hub of the ship with views of decks 5, 6 and 7 where entertainment such as the theater, art gallery and food options including a wine bar, gelato bar, restaurants and the spa can be found.
The Royal Princess has a total of 1,780 staterooms, including 36 suites, 314 mini-suites, and 1,088 balconies. The corner suite on the Riviera deck is 680-square feet, includes a full bathroom, a sitting room and a wrap around balcony. The smaller interior rooms start at 166-square feet.
Lounge chairs are found throughout the ship. On the upper decks 16, 17, 18 and 19 they offer views either to the activity happening on the ship or of the ports and oceans traveled to and from.
Deck 17 features and outdoor play area, youth center, retreat pool and bar. The retreat pool is exclusively for adults, as is the sanctuary which features private cabanas and flat screen TVs.
Deck 18 is known as the sports deck where there are jogging and walking tracks, table tennis, a golf practice range and exercise equipment spread throughout.

The SeaWalk on Deck 16, is a glass bottom walkway that goes out 28 feet beyond the edge of ship giving a peek at the water 125 feet below. Travel along the SeaWalk from the Pastry Shop to the staircase to Deck 17 where pools and sunbathing await.
