Super Bowl XLIX is just around the corner. The big game airs this Sunday at 6:30pm, and with this year’s Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and New England’s Patriots it’s a battle that will stretch coast to coast. If you’re not skipping America’s foremost secular holiday this year or even if you are, but are looking for some fresh ideas to celebrate or not celebrate the big game, read on for where to eat, drink and watch or not watch Super Bowl XLIX this Sunday.
Getting In The Sprit
Throw on your favorite team’s jersey and maybe some face paint to fend off the wind, then hit the road for the Super Bowl Fun Run 5k at Jones Beach. The run starts at 11, meaning you’ll have plenty of time to get back before kickoff, devour some wings and beer (to restore those depleted calories) and find a great spot for Katy Perry’s halftime show.
Take-Out
If you prefer to take in the Super Bowl from the comfort of your own home but the thought of cooking interrupting your commercial watching gives you nightmares, never fear the Island has take-out options galore. Shandon Court’s always popular Super Bowl take-out specials are a must if you’re in the East Islip area. Wings fans can’t go wrong with Wings Plus in Port Washington, just remember if you didn’t order well in advance, you may have to be a bit patient. Sandwich lovers can have their pick of heroes from the Iavarone Brothers in New Hyde Park, Wantagh, Woodbury and Maspeth. They also have pizza, various salads and wings and mozzarella sticks.
Girls-Night Out
If football’s not your thing but you don’t think you should miss out on a party, celebrate with the girls. Barrique Kitchen & Wine Bar in Babylon is doing their classic “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” Super Bowl Sunday. Two seating times, 4:15 to 6:15pm and 6:30pm to the end of game, each include psych readings by Mae, gift bags by healthy alternatives in Babylon and the showing of the movie The Other Woman. Pandemonium will hold a half time fashion show and the drink specials include $6 cosmos, appletinis, sangria and wine.
Out on the Island
For those that can’t imagine spending the Super Bowl anyway but at bar with other football enthusiasts, Argyle Grill & Tavern the sister restaurant to Barrique is offering a happy hour from 6pm to the end of the game in the bar area with a special 1/2 price Super Bowl menu. Swallow in Huntington also has drink and food specials at the bar where you can to watch the game on their 8-foot screen projector. Monsoon in Babylon Village has a special Super Bowl Sunday menu, which includes half priced cocktails, beer and wine and 50 cent wings. The game will be on their 100 square foot screen. In Garden City the Super Bowl party at Revel Restaurant & Bar begins at 5:30pm, includes a complimentary halftime buffet of their famous Sriracha-BBQ Wings and the game on their 10-foot screen projector.
