Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Balenciaga…Hamptonites sporting designer wears from these brands are a dime a dozen. Luckily those looking for something equally luxe, but less ubiquitous can now beeline straight for Copious Row. The online retailer, which caters to both men and women, is opening its first brick and mortar store in Sag Harbor this month. We spoke with owner, David Chines, to find out more about what we can expect.
Pulse Insider: Can you tell us a little bit about your background?
David Chines: I’ve been working in the fashion space for several years. I worked in PR and brand strategy for large luxury brands such as Givenchy, Kenzo, Pucci and Fendi, as well as new startups. I’ve had the opportunity to work on the marketing side as well as the editorial angle.

Pulse Insider: How did Copious Row the website come about?
DC: The website came about because I saw a need in the marketplace for an online destination that catered to people that wanted unique and exclusive items. I also saw that there were lots of brands, many of which were smaller or international, that had little or no online presence and I felt like they should be represented in the online space.
Pulse Insider: Where did the name stem from?
DC: The names just kind of came to me one day. As I was thinking of the concept and brand I was inspired by the bespoke nature of Savile Row in London. I wanted to combine a part of that with something else and I felt “Copious”, which means an abundance of, was a great fit.
Pulse Insider: How do you go about sourcing your brands/products?
DC: I travel extensively to find most of my brands and products and the majority are found internationally via meetings with various showrooms and designers, as well as trade shows.
Pulse Insider: What have been some of the biggest challenges of running the site?
DC:It’s always harder online to convey the beauty and uniqueness of certain items. It’s not always easy to tell the story of a great brand and how the items were discovered with people’s short attention span online. The story behind the items is a huge part of their identity and why they are so amazing.

Pulse Insider: What made you decide to open a brick and mortar location?
DC: I love seeing people’s reaction to the products. In person, people really understand the beauty and quality of everything instantly.
Pulse Insider: Why the Hamptons? How did you go about settling on your Sag Harbor space?
DC: The Hamptons are a beautiful and special place with amazing gems everywhere, just like the store. I wanted to find a beautiful space that encompassed the brand and felt distinctly Hamptons. The Sag Harbor space is a really amazing, renovated 1800s carriage house with original beams and a beautiful private garden. Combined with the modern esthetic of the build out, it’s a really special space.

Pulse Insider: Can you tell us a little bit about the boutique and what it will stock?
DC: The boutique is jewel box that will showcase incredible items and will serve as a great place to explore and find something new and unexpected. It will stock men’s, women’s, and home accessories. You’ll be able to find everything from cufflinks, to handbags, to candles, to sunglasses.
Pulse Insider: Will the merchandise overlap with your website?
DC: Yes, there will be some of the same merchandise as is on the website. However, there will be many in-store exclusives that you can only find at the store.

Pulse Insider: What items are you most excited about to be stocking on opening day?
DC:I’m really excited to be carrying Rona Pfeiffer’s jewelry that is just a stunning and a super cool line. I’m thrilled to stock Finlay & Co sunglasses, they’re a London-based brand and make the coolest sunglasses with solid wood frames. And of course Karl Lagerfeld candles – I’m thrilled to have been personally selected by him to carry his candle collection.
Pulse Insider: Any event or truck shows planned for the summer?
DC: Lots! Many of our brands are going to be hosting trunks shows with exclusive offerings, monogramming, and custom styling. Final dates TBD. You can sign up for our newsletter via the website for updates.
