Stony Brook Ranked Fifth-Best Place for Young Families in New York

Let’s face it: Long Island is a great place to live at every stage in your life. In our April issue, Alex Costello played town matchmaker and suggested some up-and-coming alternatives for people looking to make a move. A recent study conducted by finance website NerdWallet looked at the top 10 places for young families to move, and the Island dominated the list. Six Long Island towns made the cut, led by No. 5 Stony Brook.

Here’s what the website wrote about Stony Brook:

“The top Long Island spot in our list, this North Shore hamlet has leveraged its recent economic growth and quality schools to become a premier destination for young families. Stony Brook schools earned a 9 from Great Schools, and a median family has seen its income grow 60% since 1999, the best mark in the top 10. Stony Brook is also home to the Long Island Museum of American Art, History, and Carriages, which is a Smithsonian Institution affiliate.”

Massapequa Park (6), Wantagh (7), Commack (8), Holtsville (9) and Bellmore (10) round out the top 10.
