5 Best Yoga Apps

There’s no shortage of yoga studios on Long Island where locals can align their bodies, minds and spirits with fellow yogis. If you need some zen in your life but can’t quite fit yoga class into your schedule, you’re in luck. Say ohm in your own home, office, a hotel or even an airplane using these five apps.

Yoga Studio
Yoga studio boasts 65 ready-made video classes that can be watched in high definition. The possibilities are limitless with this app, as users can customize as many classes of full video as they want using a library of poses and pose blocks, which are poses typically grouped together. Practice durations range from 15 to 60 minutes. Users can also select their level (beginner, intermediate or advanced). Perhaps best of all, people can tailor their practices based on individual goals, such as strength, flexibility, relaxation, balance or a combination. Not surprisingly, the soundtrack is also customizable. It’s easy to stay on track with the app’s calendar that automatically synchs with iPhones.

Pocket Yoga
Utilizing Gaia Flow Yoga, a rigorous vinyasa practice that naturally strengthens and heals the mind, body, emotions and spirit, Pocket Yoga’s poses flow together seamlessly. The app includes three full practices (ocean – cardio, mountain – power and desert – detox/flexibility) plus two short sun salutation routines that are under seven minutes long. For a full practice, users can choose their desired duration (30, 45 or 60 minutes) and skill level (beginner, intermediate or advanced). Each pose has written instructions that include its health benefits, so users can really learn what they are doing for themselves by using the app! The practices are demonstrated with a cartoon model rather than a real-life one. While it may seem impersonal, it allows people to see the pose done correctly. Users can listen to the relaxing in-app music or their own libraries. Diehard yogis will enjoy the Pocket Yoga Practice Builder.
