The Best Week May 2015

“In the merry month of May…” Finish that old English ditty as you like, but know that we have a full lineup of goings-on for one of the merriest months of the year. Break out your lute and start composing or enjoy our Best Week, merrily compiled from the pages of Pulse.

Discover Island Zen to start the week and follow our primer to find a yogic soul mate. For extra karma, look to renowned yogi Krishna Dasstory of inspiration and inner peace.

In a Cinco de Mayo kind
of mood? Drinkology will scratch the itch with a true Mexican original: la paloma. Better
yet, mosey over to Verde Kitchen & Cocktail in Bay Shore. Word is their Master Mixologist serves up fresh, authentic drinks from south of the border.

Take advantage of longer daylight hours and hop on
a road bike after work. Get Road Ready with the proper fitting gear. Jones Beach Bikeway is now 17+ miles round-trip starting at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford and ending at Tobay Beach. Choose the stretch that suits your mood and open ’er up.

Beach day! Duck out early
and linger for an afternoon at the revitalized Rockaways. On the way back to the mainland, stop by Rockville Centre’s GM Burger and taste LI’s reigning champion of pattied meats.

Root for the home team tonight. The Long Island Ducks season opener is this month at Bethpage Ballpark. Fuel the baseball nostalgia by reading Sharing Shea, an almost-fond look back at 1975, the year four local teams were forced to play in one stadium.

Time to get out and smell the roses, literally. The Garden Conservancy’s Open Days are blooming across Long Island. Many of the private homes opening their gates are out east, finish with oceanside dining at Cowfish in Hampton Bays.

Enchantment under the sea. Take the plunge at The Hamptons Dive Center in Riverhead, no previous SCUBA training required. Time it right and afterwards continue the marine theme at nearby Long Island Aquarium and their Taste of East End event.
