
In the past few decades television shows have become as prominent as films in American society. We all have our own favorite TV shows, gossip about them at work and set the DVR to never miss an episode. This August, Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington celebrates television’s role in American Society from the early 1950s to today with a series of events that trace the evolution.
Relive The Twilight Zone and other classic TV shows while learning a bit about the actors, writers, directors and producers that created legendary programs.
Traveling Back in Time into The Twilight Zone
When: Aug. 18 at 7:30pm
Why Go: For more than five decades The Twilight Zone has resonated with television viewers. The show created by Rod Sterling won Emmys for its first two seasons and many famous actors got their chops on the show. Film historian Philip Harwood takes a journey to The Twilight Zone with a viewing and discussion of three of the most important episodes.

Ernie Kovacs: TV Comedy Pioneer
When: Aug. 24 at 7:30pm
Why Go: Ernie Kovacs’s surreal sense of humor helped develop the television comedy seen today. The brilliant comedian had a keen sense of how to relate to the audience sitting on its couch at home. Learn about his life and work from 1951 to untimely death in 1962 from historian Ben Model, an archivist for the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams television collections, and watch a screening of Kovcas’s best sketches.

Masters of Sex: An Evening With Thomas Maier
When: Aug. 20 at 7:30pm
Why Go: Long Island’s own Thomas Maier’s acclaimed biography of William Masters and Virginia Johnson became an Emmy-winning Showtime drama starring Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan and filmed on Long Island. The show follows the unusual lives of Masters (Sheen) and Johnson (Caplan) as they research human sexuality. Maier, who also serves as show producer, will speak about the series and show clips.

Why Go: What would it be like to grow up as the son of one of America’s most loved actors? Find out when David Klugman, son of Jack Klugman the gruff, messy sportswriter Oscar on TV’s The Odd Couple, shares personal stories, photos and memories of his father’s life.
