Corpse Flower Blooms
It happened. The Corpse Flower bloomed! All week long, when we needed a break from work we were checking in with Denver’s Corpse Flower. Officially, known as the Amorphophallus titanum, the rare flower only blooms every 7 to 10 years and when it does only blooms for up 48 hours giving off a smell that some say resembles a decomposing animal, hence the nickname corpse flower. The flower at Denver Botanic Garden bloomed on Aug. 19. Enjoy the time lapse of the flower blooming without the smell.
Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte Gets Legit
Yes, it’s 100 hundred degrees outside and the last thing you want to think about is a hot, creamy, sweet beverage but hold with us for minute. We’re betting in just a few weeks as soon as that first chilly morning hits, you’re going to be craving that Pumpkin Spice Latte. Here’s your permission to indulge this fall. Starbucks announced this week that the Pumpkin Spice Latte is going legit, being made with real pumpkin.
“After hearing from customers and partners about ingredients, we took another look at this beverage and why we created it so many years ago,” Peter Dukes of Starbucks wrote. “ It was simple — espresso, perfectly steamed milk, warm fall spices with delicious flavor of pumpkin pie that reminds you of the cool, crisp days of autumn. So, with that great taste you know and love, the PSL returns this fall, and this time it will be made with real pumpkin and without caramel coloring.”
Come on fall.
Let it Snow…Again
You might need a whole lot of pumpkin spice lattes this winter because The Farmer’s Almanac is predicting it’s going to be another cold and snowy one. Get ready for another year of above-average snowfall and below-average temperatures. If you’re thinking of escaping Oregon, don’t look at flight prices on Excela just yet because even places that don’t get much snow like the Pacific Northwest are expected to get the fluffy white stuff, too. Doesn’t it feel like we just put away our snow shovels? There may be a silver lining, though. “Just about everybody who gets snow will have a White Christmas in one capacity or another,” editor Janice Stillman said. Start dreaming.
