It’s the Hampton summer social event to end all Hampton summer social events. Before the kids go back to school, the days get shorter and life speeds up again, people will be flocking to the East End for the Hampton Classic. It’s one of the largest outdoor horse shows in the United States, and it features world-class competition, food and shopping.

But come on, horse shows are all about the fashion. Though the Hampton Classic is a star-studded affair that’s become known as “Hollywood’s Horse Show,” it’s got a bit of a different vibe than the Kentucky Derby or Belmont Stakes. You’re going to be doing more walking than sitting in the stands, so the Hampton Classic suggested attire is  country casual with comfortable shoes because honestly, it’s not cute when your stilettos sink into the grass. Of course, that’s not an excuse to end your stylish summer looking anything other than chic.

The It Print

Rock the print of the summer one last time. Gingham got an upgrade from its typical picnic-blanket status this year in the form of cute blouses and dresses, but even at its chicest, the checkered print is still a little bit country, making it the perfect pick for the Hampton Classic. Throw on this Chetta B Fit & Flare Dress with a pair of black wedges. A bright blue Tory Burch tote adds a summery touch of color and is big enough to hold the items you pick up at Boutique Garden.

White Out

Warning: This idea is not for the people who always seem to wear their pasta sauce. The head-to-toe white look was a favorite trend this summer, though, so if you can keep it clean, why not go for it before Labor Day rolls around? Play with proportions in Vincent Camuto side ankle zip pants and a Wilt Top rounded hem tank. Finish it off with flat sandals and a fringe purse you’ll use all fall.

Classic Sporty

Polos had a moment this summer and even if they didn’t, there’s something quintessential about wearing one to anything that involves horses. Accentuate your curves with a fitted style. A skater skirt adds some flare. Consider cute sneaks and a roomy tote for finishing touches.

Hats

Be bold and don a fancy hat, especially if you’re attending Grand Prix Sunday. Get inspired with some of the the Belmont’s best.
