Get Your Paint On

Paint night is taking over grown-ups’ calendars and many an inner Picasso has been liberated thanks to the encouraging environment (and alcohol) typically associated with this entertainment trend. And it’s taking off as much for the social component as for the ease of accomplishing something creative. Over the course of two hours, an instructor guides a group to recreate a painting chosen specifically for the evening. Throughout the step-by-step session, instructions are given to ensure even the biggest of skeptics completes a piece worthy of mention on his Facebook page.

Costs range from about $25-$50 depending on the venue and amenities included. Locations typically come fully loaded with paint supplies including the canvas, brushes, paint, a smock and an alcoholic beverage to keep those artistic juices flowing. But, depending on the location, wine or beer may not be included and age restrictions are a possibility.

There are two different types of painting experiences. Paint night usually occurs in an independent art studio, while PaintNite is a trademarked event that involves local restaurants, bakeries and coffee shops as volunteer hosts. Those individual businesses arrange to have an instructor show up and perform the event there.
