Yoga fans are stretching their muscles and their palettes in Huntington Village at Kala Luna Juicery & Yoga. Owners Alana Garner and Danny Passafaro opened the studio back in June. Garner brings with her 8 years and 200 hours of yoga studies and certification all the way from colorful Maui, Hawaii where she studied at Maui Hot Yoga. After working in the restaurant industry during her studies, she felt she could offer the village a place where they could practice yoga and also grab a healthy fix.
First her classes: there’s Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Prana, Kundalini and Restorative yoga. “Vinyasa is my favorite,” Garner said. “It’s all about building an internal fire.” Ashtanga and Vinyasa are the toughest of her classes as holding poses for a longer period of time gets the heart rate up. “Restorative is good for people who just want to stretch and unwind; it’s very calming and gentle,” Garner said. Instructors all do their own variations, though, and with classes throughout the day and 10 instructors there are plenty of things to try.
Kala Luna’s clientele is as varied as the yoga classes. There are high school students that come in after school hours, those in their 70s and moms just looking for a great way to stay fit. And before or after class customers can stretch their taste buds with bites of healthy treats.
“I wanted to make my place a one-stop shop for people who love yoga and want to eat healthy,” Garner said. She liked the food aspect coupled with a yoga studio. Kala Luna’s cold-pressed juice bar is 100 percent organic with an offering of 10 different juice varieties and 15 different smoothie options. Customers are encouraged to concoct their own too, and according to Garner, nothing goes to waste.
“We try to have zero waste,” Garner said. After juices are made, tasty and healthy leftovers that remain get spun into foods such as kale ravioli and carrot muffins. They sell pre-packaged food for on the go and everything is made fresh that day. Whet your appetite with their fresh soups, salads and sandwiches made daily. Vegans should try their amazing blended pudding.
Garner is proud of her offering to the town of Huntington. She said she’s been around and taken classes at some of the other yoga studios and they are all great. Now, they have Kala Luna. “Juice bars together with yoga is a big movement everywhere else in the country,” she said. “Now they have us as another option and they can find what’s best for them.”
