Long Island Tree Lighting Guide

Santa has made his trip to Herald Square and the holiday season is underway. On Wednesday, Dec. 2, the tree in Rockefeller Center will be lit for the first time. That’s a must-watch for many of us each year, but who says our neighbors to the West get to have all the fun? Many Long Island towns host tree lightings of their own. Holiday Light Show

Not quite a tree lighting, but the dazzling displays expected at the Holiday Light Show to benefit the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County make it worth a mention and visit. Drive through a mile-long, wooded trail filled with bright lights and holiday vignettes. $20 per vehicle with $3 service fee (service fee is waived if ticket is purchased by Dec. 10).

The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Extravaganza

A festive celebration perfect for date night or family night. Ride through town on a horse-drawn carriage or trolley, hear your favorite carols and watch the Bellmore Chamber of Commerce flip the switch on the holiday season.

Annual Christmas Tree Lighting in the Vanderbilt Mansion Courtyard

Take in a performance by the Northport Chorale followed by the lighting of the tree at 4:30pm. Make sure you get your cookies and hot chocolate early because Mr. Claus will be on hand.

Stew Leonard’s 1st Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Stew Leonard’s will be open for business in Farmingdale in late January 2016, but their Christmas tree shoppe is open now. To celebrate, the farm fresh grocer is holding what it hopes to be the first of many Christmas tree lighting ceremonies.

Garden City
Garden City Village Tree Lighting

An annual tradition for more than 60 years, the tree lighting held at the iconic gazebo across from the Garden City Hotel is a family favorite. Hot chocolate and cookies are accompanied by performances from local musicians. As the main event, Santa arrives via fire truck to help the mayor light the tree.

A holiday tradition for many South Shore residents, the Belmont Lake State Park Tree Lighting includes ice sculptures, holiday songs sung by the local elementary schools, figurine displays, a lighting of the tree by Santa and fireworks.

36th Annual Holiday Festival

It takes a village to decorate the beautiful cobblestone pathways of the Stony Brook Village Center. Join with neighbors and decorate an evergreen that will line them all season long. Bring the kids because there’s a petting zoo and Santa arrives at 2pm by horse-drawn carriage. The event culminates with a tree lighting presented by The Ward Melville Heritage Organization at 5:30pm.
