Some Like It Hot & Spicy Heats Up Huntington

Things are heating up in Huntington. Some Like It Hot & Spicy, a shop specializing in hot sauces and spicy snacks opened this past year adding extra flavor to the area. The store has become known for its more than 500 types of sauces including hot sauces, barbecue sauces, rubs and other locally inspired flavors.

Owners Loony Root and his wife, Joanne Masciale, have become the local hot sauce connoisseurs. The hot sauce enthusiasts conceived the idea for the store about a year ago wanting to bring their love of heat to the village they call home.

“We thought it’d be a fun idea to bring some heat and flavor to Huntington,” Root said.

The saucy store’s specialties and best selling items are the local and regional products that come from Long Island and the surrounding areas of New Jersey and Connecticut. Many of them are award-winning sauces in their own right. You’ll find a line of hot sauce from Long Island’s own Eddie Ojeda, guitarist from Twisted Sister, a Jersey Barnfire Roasted Peach Habanero Sauce that Root says is perfect for vanilla ice cream and basically anything else a hot sauce lover could want. The Roots are constantly searching out new flavors. Soon, customers may even find sauces coming from Alaska.

And even if sauces aren’t your thing, but you like enjoying a bit of spice, there’s something for you at Some Like It Hot & Spicy. The store sells a wide variety of snacks ranging in different flavors and levels of spiciness.

“We carry a full selection of exotic jerkies, spicy snacks like habanero popcorns and ghost pepper peanuts, and we carry spicy jams and jellies, everything from sweet to extremely hot,” Root said.

With the impending holiday season the Roots are preparing pre-made and custom made gift baskets along with ready-to-go gifts for the hot sauce lover in your life.
