3 Spring Staples for Every Man’s Wardrobe

It’s time to shed the winter layers and let individual wardrobe staples do the talking. Stylist Malcolm Hall shares his picks for the must-have items to invest in this season. Pulse can not be held responsible for any added difficulty in cleaning out closets this spring.

French Press: A double cuff dress shirt, also known as French cuffs, “adds a flare that can add great detail and individuality to any outfit, especially if you can customize your cuff links,” said Hall. The cuffs fold back and cinch together with accessories of the wearer’s choosing, making a simple shirt ready for any occasion. Hall added that typically “the fabric used to make French cuff shirts is more wrinkle resistant than the average cuffed shirt.”

On Time: A classic wrist piece never goes out of style (see our Quintessential Gentlemen for prize choices), which is why it makes for a great investment. Hall advised, “[It] can be worn anywhere…with a tuxedo, with a suit, casual on the weekend” and suggested a white gold face with a black leather strap. The combination makes for a timeless and transitional look.

To Boot: Spring has sprung, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to pack away the boots. “They come in a variety of brown tones that are very popular—or a navy classic calfskin dress boot. Those are a few great ones that are actually out now for spring.” Hall explained the lightweight dress boots make the perfect winter-to-spring transitional shoe. “It’s a great way to dress up a pair of jeans. They literally go with everything.”
