2016 Oscars Best Dressed List

The Oscars are hailed as Hollywood’s biggest night, and not just because of those statuettes that get handed out to honor the best in film. The awards show is the grand finale of red carpet season.  Stars and their stylists seize the moment with designer and custom-made gowns, flawless hair and make-up and swoon-worthy shoes. In 2016, jewel tones, high slits and drop earrings caused jaws to drop and heads to turn, and made it hard work to come up with 10 looks for our Oscars 2016 best dressed list. Thankfully, Twitter made the job a little bit easier.

Saoirse Ronan

In a nod to her Irish heritage and absolutely fabulous body, Best Actress nominee and Brooklyn star Saoirse Ronan glimmered in a green Calvin Klein gown. She finished the look with on-trend mismatched earrings, beachy hair and natural makeup.

Gena Rowlands

One of the earlier arrivals, the legendary Gena Rowlands chose a dress that featured a completely of-the-moment high slit. Rowlands, who accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award for her six-decade career in the industry, balanced the look by slipping on a chic, tailored jacket.

Charlize Theron

It was pretty much game over when Mad Max star Charlize Theron showed up in a plunging red Dior gown that left just enough to the imagination. The long, draped Harry Winston necklace? Perfection. Even Tina Fey was moved.

Brie Larson

It wasn’t enough for Brie Larson to look like a knockout in a flowing cobalt Gucci dress, cinched at the waist by a sparkling belt, and win the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in Room. She had to go and have a total hair moment to boot. The trendy half-updo was glammed up with a diamond encrusted olive leaf vine clip and gave women everywhere hair goals to strive towards. You’d never know she was suffering from jet lag after a trip to Vietnam.

Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington is a human clothing hanger, everything looks great on her. The Scandal star and presenter looked like a total warrior princess in Altier Versace.

Priyanka Chopra

Quantico star and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra wowed in a sheer white Zuhair Murad gown with a heart neckline, long train and flower details that hugged every curve and showed off her hourglass figure. Her giant diamond earrings and rings channeled old-school Hollywood glamour.

Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams looked elegant in emerald and had an Angelina Jolie-leg moment in an August Getty Atelier frock with a high slit and dramatic train. The Best Supporting Actress nominee’s sleek bun and flawless makeup were beauty wins.

Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts shimmered on the red carpet in a metallic blue-and-purple Armani number. Look closely at the intricate fish-scale detailing, which you probably missed the first time around because of her heavy statement necklace that was perfect for the bare-shouldered gown.

Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner’s black Versace dress was anything but basic. The one-shoulder stunner, which included silk and sparkling embellishments and an asymmetrical neckline, showed off her toned upper body and probably had Ben Affleck feeling a twinge of remorse. A Salvatore Ferragamo clutch, drop earrings and diamond bracelets completed the look.

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett didn’t have much time to test drive her new short ‘do—she got her haircut a few hours before show time. The cut wasn’t the only jaw-dropping part of the seven-time Oscar nominee’s look. Blanchett rocked a seafoam Armani mermaid gown with hand-sewn clusters of Swarovski crystals and white feathers and glamorous Tiffany & Co. jewels.
