Netflix is beginning to increase prices for formally grandfathered in subscribers this May, but they’re trying to make up for it with content. The month’s releases include the network’s first ever talk show, an Adam Sandler movie and season 2 of a deliciously popular documentary.
Funny Girls: Chelsea, Lady Dynamite, Grace and Frankie
After leaving E! in 2014, comedian Chelsea Handler has been busy honoring her $10 million-dollar deal with Netflix. First came a stand-up special, then a four-part mockumentary comedy series. It was all leading up to Chelsea, the network’s first talk show. The show will not stream live but new episodes will be released every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Drops May 11.
Comedian Maria Bamford will follow in Handler’s footsteps, staring in her own 13-episode mockumentary series Lady Dynamite. Drops May 20.
Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin return for season 2 of Grace and Frankie. The two former enemies continue to navigate life together after finding out their husbands had fallen in love with each other. June Diane Raphael, who plays Grace’s daughter Brianna, was born and raised in Rockville Centre. Drops May 6.
Catch A Thrill: Marseille and Bloodline
A 13-episode season of House of Cards was released March 4, and if you’re a fan, chances are you devoured it in a day or two. Withdrawal symptoms are no doubt setting in by now, and season 5 doesn’t premiere until next year. Netflix has you covered. Marseille, a political thriller, is the network’s first French original series. It is about a battle between Marseilles’ longtime mayor Robert Taro (Gérard Depardieu) and his former protégé Lucas Barres (Benoît Magimel) that escalates into war. Drops May 5.
The Rayburn family is back with more dark secrets and drama waiting to be uncovered in season 2 of the Netflix original thriller Bloodline. Drops May 27.
Binge On This: Chef’s Table
You might want to grab a snack before pressing play on this one. Chef’s Table is a documentary series that takes the viewer around the world in a season, profiling one world-renowned chef per episode. This season, the show takes us to Järpen, Sweden to meet Chef Magnus Nilsson and Melbourne, Australia to meet Chef Ben Shewry, to name a few places. The series is so popular that seasons 2 and 3 are already announced and planned. Drops May 27.
Movie Night: The Do-Over
Adam Sandler stars with David Spade and Paula Patton in The Do-Over, the second title released as part of his four-movie deal. Two guys are down on their luck and decide to fake their own deaths and assume new identities, only to discover they did not choose wisely. Their alter egos are in more trouble than they ever imagined. Drops May 27.
