Get the Golden Earthworm at the Islip Farmers Market

From now until November, head to the Islip Farmers Market, where the early bird gets the (golden) earthworm. The market opens Saturday at 7am, allowing locals to get their shopping done before the rest of the world opens their eyes. Nestled between all of the brightly colored fruit and vegetables for sale, find cold pressed coffee (necessary at 7am), legendary onion sauces, freshly made ice cream and hot empanadas. Five stalls are must-stops.

Golden Earthworm Organic Farm

This family farm grows more than 100 varieties of vegetables for their CSA and farmers market locations. Top sellers change seasonally, but tomatoes, corn and lettuce sell out fast. Customers love string beans, peppers and melons too. Bok choy, kale and spinach will be available in the fall. Learn more.

Dragon’s Nest Baked Goods

Finding gluten-free baked goods that “taste better than the real thing” can be a daunting task, but not anymore. Dragon’s Nest is changing the way people think about gluten-free products. Made in a dedicated gluten-free kitchen, top sellers include rainbow cookies, scones and quick breads, but their sandwich bread sells out quickly too. Dairy-free and vegan options are also available. In addition to beef, chicken and pork products, the shop also sells desserts from their home-style bakery with lemon bars, toffee whoopee pies and carrot cake being best sellers. Learn more.
