It wasn’t supposed to go down like this. If you believed the media and polls, Hillary Clinton was a shoo-in for president. She held a persistent, albeit slight, edge over Donald Trump. His improbable bid for the White House was going to end on Election Night.
It didn’t. Trump, whose campaign defied logic from the start, tallied state after state until the AP projected the businessman/reality TV star as the presidential elect around 2:30am. And all the while Twitter had a slow, collective meltdown. For the masochists out there, relive the suffering with a collection of the night’s top tweets.
Hillary might still win. But a lot of people don’t live in the country they thought they lived in.

Next year will have a Joe Maddon-Donald Trump photo op. A man who fucked up royally when it mattered but still won, posing with Donald Trump.
