Yes, the little black bag is a staple in any closet. But it’s bold, beautiful and straight-up boss bags that are essential for the season. Commanding totes dominated the winter/spring ready-to-wear runways and by all accounts, the brighter—and more embellished—the better.

Where luxury Italian couture meets New York City street art you’ll find this season’s must-have designer collection: GucciGhost. Gucci’s red-hot creative director Alessandro Michele invited Brooklyn-based artist Trevor Andrew, aka Trouble Andrew, to help design this edgy, graffiti-inspired line. The collection’s shoulder bag embodies GucciGhost’s concept: a juxtaposition of high design and street art. This eye-catcher features neon yellow stars and Gucci’s iconic logo in bright blue that pop off the black quilted leather purse.

Burberry didn’t shy away from bold design either. The house’s Ruffle Buckle Bag is a powerful play on color, texture and material. Edgy snakeskin contrasts the Elizabethan-style ruffle collars prevalent throughout the collection.

Fendi also took a colorful approach, using the season’s hottest fabric (velvet) as the backdrop of its statement-making Peekaboo bag, available at Neiman Marcus. The house once again proves its commitment to creativity and craftsmanship. The oversized satchel bag is near impossible to overlook with its embroidered scalloped flower detailing and whipstitch framing. Bonus: it’s removable, adjustable shoulder strap makes it a breeze to carry day or night. Now that’s taking charge of your wardrobe.
