The holidays become even more festive with some unconditional love from a furry friend. For those who don’t have one, it’s the perfect time to bring one home (maybe even surprise the kids on Christmas morning!). But instead of heading to a pet store, why not save a life from your local shelter?
These six adorable dogs below are among the hundreds of pooches living at the North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington—and they are ready to be adopted just in time for the holiday season.
Zoey: If you have an active lifestyle, this energetic pooch is your new best friend. At around 2 and 1/2 years old, Zoey would make a great running buddy. Due to her high energy level, a home with adults would be best.
Zip: Tiny and cute, Zip came to Long Island after being rescued from the Midwest. Others dogs in the house are no problem for this little girl; and neither are cats. In fact, she would prefer having a fluffy feline to keep her company.
Clay: This Heeler mix is a playful puppy that would love nothing more than running around in a big backyard with some new pals (preferably children 6 years and older).
Apollo: He may be 9 years old, but it’s certainly hard to tell from how much energy he has. Apollo’s loyalty hasn’t gone unnoticed at the shelter making it clear he would make a great friend to anyone, especially someone who spends a lot of time at home.
Reese and Ryder: These two pooches are double the fun. Reese, 5, and Ryder, 1, were saved from the same place and are hoping to find a home where they can stay together.
